Company History

Sentry Security Systems was established in 1969 by James H. “Jim Sr.” Shultz, a visionary and entrepreneur who understood there was something missing from the growing security industry in the Kansas City market. Around a dozen electronic security companies were already present, but Jim Sr. believed there was room for one more – one that could do it better. Fortunately, he was right.

It took a great deal of fortitude and persistence, but Sentry Security Systems grew into a major provider of residential, industrial and commercial security services across the Kansas City metro area. By 1978, James E. “Jim” Shultz had completed his college education, and the next generation was ready to join the Sentry Security Systems team. Jim was taught by his father to remember that Sentry Security Systems would only become the leading security company in the local market by focusing on the needs of clients and enhancing its customer service.

Holding that counsel close, Jim has taken Sentry Security Systems to the heights of success his father described. Under his leadership for the last three decades, Sentry Security Systems has grown into a local leader in providing residential, commercial and industrial electronic security systems to the homes and businesses of Kansas City and beyond.

Today, Sentry Security Systems is well equipped to embrace new technologies while continuing our commitment to customer service. As president of Sentry Security Systems, Jim is actively involved in new business development and remains the heart of the company – just as his father was. One cannot go very far in the Kansas City area without seeing the yellow and black circle recognized as the Sentry Security Systems seal of protection on stickers and yard signs.
